Viewing or Service Before Cremation Families may choose to hold a traditional service or visitation at a church or chapel before cremation. This is typically done with the use of a rental casket, giving family and friends an opportunity to gather, view, and honor the deceased before cremation takes place. B. Memorial Service with Urn Present Another option is to hold a memorial service after cremation. The urn is present, often accompanied by a portrait, memorial poster, or other personal tributes.
