FANNIE "WITH AN IE"

Fannie Elizabeth Schriner was born on May 8, 1929, in Easton, Pennsylvania, to Markley Race and Mary Ferguson. Fannie was cherished by numerous members of the congregation. she is survived by her brother, Markley Race, her sister-in-law, Jan Race, as well as her beloved nieces and nephews.

While working at the Dixie Cup Company in Easton Pennsylvania, She met Robert Roy Schriner, and they tied the knot on May 20, 1950.

The couple relocated from Pennsylvania to Las Vegas, eventually settling in Southern California, where they ran a bar in East Los Angeles called “The Longhorn Club” on Whittier Boulevard for twelve years. They later transitioned into a business making hammers for government contracts, with Fannie managing the books as the accountant for a company called the “Tool Shed.” Additionally, they were involved in pigeon raising and were members of the “Pensom Roller Club.” They enjoyed fishing from their boat and often shared fish fries with their customers at The Longhorn. Fannie was also a cancer survivor, thanks to the support of the City of Hope.

On March 1, 2011, Bob, her husband of 60 years, passed away due to Parkinson’s disease. This left Fannie as a widow, with most of her family living outside of California. Fortunately, she had the support of her neighbors Jennie and Paul, along with their children, as well as another neighbor, Thangh.

Thangh would bring Fannie to Riverside National Cemetery to place flowers on Bob’s grave.

Fannie met Dolores Gallardo, who introduced her to Psalms 83:18. Fannie exclaimed, “I’ve never read that before.” Dolores then offered her a home Bible study, which Fannie happily accepted. At that time, she was 85 years old. She would drive herself to the Kingdom Hall for Sunday meetings in her 1991 Toyota truck (stick shift).

Eager to learn what she needed to do to qualify for baptism and ministry, she dedicated her life to Jehovah on May 8th, 2016, and was baptized at the Norco California Assembly Hall at the age of 87. Subsequently, she participated in the school and served as an auxiliary pioneer.

Fannie was cherished by all of her brothers and sisters in the East Rosemead Congregation.

The congregation is incredibly grateful that Andy and Dolores Gallardo have welcomed Fannie into their immediate family.
