Diane Marie Irwin, born on October 9, 1951, in Missouri, peacefully departed this world on October 8, 2024, in California, just one day shy of her 73rd birthday. Diane was a beacon of joy, love, and kindness, leaving behind a legacy of service to others around her.

Throughout her life, Diane pursued numerous careers, all underscored by her unwavering commitment to help others. She earned her business degree and made a mark as the owner of her own community newspaper, Sun Hills Magazine, during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Later, Diane became a certified addictions counselor, utilizing her own experiences to guide others on their paths to recovery, including teaching DUI school. In early 2000s, her pursuit of knowledge and commitment to service culminated in achieving a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. After which time she spent ten years as a medical social worker throughout Los Angeles County, including time at Kaiser and USC. Her sobriety of 38 years stands as one of her proudest accomplishments and a testament to her courage and strength.

Diane had a spirit that was both motivational and outspoken, a true feminist who wasn’t afraid to share her beliefs or her life struggles. Her personality was as diverse as her interests, encompassing compassion for others less fortunate, a warm sense of humor, and a passion for the simple joys in life. She cherished walks along the beach and sunsets, loved sunshine like a cat in a window sill, and couldn’t resist a good song and dance. However, nothing delighted her more than spending time with her grandsons and indulging in delicious desserts. Truly embodying the phrase “life is too short, eat dessert first,” she was known to savor every sweet bite, right until the very end. Her last meal, raspberry sherbet, was spoon-fed by her daughter.

Diane’s faith in others was remarkable, inspiring those around her to strive for their very best. She supported countless women who faced similar adversities, offering guidance and encouragement drawn from her own experiences.

She leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter, Megan, son-in-law, Jose, and her son, Aarone, along with six grandchildren who filled her life with laughter. Diane was preceded in death by her mother, Jeanette, who also suffered from Alzheimer’s and passed away in 2012, and her father, Elmer.

As we remember Diane, it is clear that her impact on the world is immeasurable. Her smile, laughter, kindness, and compassion remain etched in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved her, and her legacy of service will continue to inspire us all.
